Momentum is a horizontal and almost hypnotic immersion into the interstices of a slice of everyday life.
The projected image, a long take of breathtaking beauty filmed from aboard a train travelling through India, slowly entices the spectators into a kind of one-on-one encounter with the strange banality of the visuals before their eyes.
The audio, produced in real time, has a revelatory quality and resonates with a multitude of emotional layers while the search for live radio frequencies acts like a second disk head.
The audio work is a collage of multiple receptive strata creating a new realm of imagination in counterpoint to the tracking shot.
A visual artist and graduate of the Paris-Cergy Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 2003, since 2000 Alexandre Berthier has mainly worked with the artist Karl-Otto von Oertzen under the name Marswalkers.At the same time, he has honed his film-making skills and has recently made a return to solo projects, focusing on image work centred around photography, video, screen printing and film language.
